Take a day to explore all the majestic and natural wonders that Southwest Florida has to offer at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

Located roughly 30 minutes east of Naples, this eclectic ecosystem covers about 13,000 acres within the Western Everglades and plays home to all kinds of wildlife, such as alligators, otters, white-tailed deer, red-bellied turtles, and panthers, as well as largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America.

The Sanctuary is an ongoing conservation project that began in 1954 after The Audobon Society purchased 5,680 acres of the region – then known as Corkscrew Swamp – in order to protect it from logging companies. Over the years, The Society expanded their area of protection to include thousands of additional acres, all of which they continue to manage and maintain today.

Visitors to Corkscrew Swamp will find a variety of ways to learn about and interact with one of Florida’s most delicate environments. Many will enjoy a tranquil stroll down the Corkscrew Boardwalk –  a 2.25-mile wooden path that leads patrons through pine flatwood, wet prairie, a marsh, and the Bald Cypress forest. Additionally, The Sanctuary offers several different guided walks, swamp tours, and special events, such as swamp meditation, and after hours programs.  They also feature a rich collection of educational programs available to schools and the general public.

Plan Your Visit

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary encourages and welcomes visitors every day of the year from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Admission is $14 for adults, $10 for National Audobon Society Members (with membership card), and $6 for ages 6-18. Children under 6 and Friends With Corkscrew members are free. Admission is good for two back-to-back days with receipt and provides access to the boardwalk, the Blair Audobon Visitor Center, and the guided tours (when offered).

Because the Sanctuary is a sensitive conservation area, visitors are asked to show care and respect the surrounding environment. Before your visit, take a moment to read over the rules. To increase the chances of seeing and hearing the natural wildlife, keep your voice low and be sure to silence your phone or keep it on vibrate.

The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is located at 375 Sanctuary Road in Naples. For more information, call 239-348-9151.
