On average, a car battery will last between three-to-five years, but that is dictated by several factors, including the type of vehicle that you drive and your driving habits. What is known is that the larger battery that you have, the longer staying power it will have. However, there are a few things that you can do to help increase the longevity of your battery:
Absolutely. Heat leads to battery failure. In fact, it is the number one reason why batteries fail. Heat causes water to evaporate inside the battery, which leads to the corrosion of internal components. Cold, however, causes your battery to be sluggish as electrons flow more slowly, which reduces the amount of energy that the battery provides.
You bet. When you have a weak battery, it puts more stress on other components throughout the vehicle, such as the starter and charging system. They can malfunction because they have to draw more voltage to compensate for the lack of battery power.
